Change In A Navajo Ceremonial
During the past two decades many of the characteristics of the Squaw Dance have changed. At the large 3 day gathering, the functions were social, religious, economic. The difficulty in recruitment of medicine men, combined with the new values of the present teen-age generation, suggests to the writer that, in spite of its current popularity and large attendance, the Squaw Dance may be on the brink of extinction.
