The incidence of middle ear disease and its educational implications among Baffin Island Eskimo children.

Eskimo children in Cape Dorset were examined medically and audiologically to determine the incidence of middle ear disease and hearing impairments. Significant hearing impairments occurred very rarely, as compared with middle ear disease, which affected 30 percent of the population age 0-9 years. Investigation of older children in the Cape Dorset school population suggested that disease and hearing loss were among the factors contributing to educational retardation.
