Unusual features of postpartum hypopituitarism among American Indians of the Southwest.

Description:

The clinical and laboratory features of 7 cases of postpartum hypopituitarism occurring in American Indians of the Southwest are described. Several of these patients had been diagnosed as having myxedema alone. Pulmonary tuberculosis had been present in 3 of the patients and conceivably may have played a role in the pathogenesis of the disease. A total of 3 episodes of coma were sustained by 2 of the patients, but both survived. The relationship between hypopituitarism and myxedema coma is discussed.
