IHS Diabetes Program Nutrition Resource Manual: a resource for health providers working in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
This manual was developed to provide quick access to diabetes nutrition resources and guidance on their use. The intended audience is health educators/providers like you - nurses, family nurse practitioners, physicians, physician assistants, community health workers, and even dietitians. It serves as a replacement and update of two similar manuals - "Diabetes Nutrition Teaching Tools" and "What Do You Do When the Nutritionist Isn't There?" This manual: 1) describes 10 nutrition education materials; 2) provides teaching tips for 10 materials; and 3) updates the reader on the latest in nutrition care for persons with diabetes. The resources in this manual provide general, introductory information as well as guidelines for specific situations. You may have materials that you or other staff find valuable. If so, then add them to the resource manual. Use the manual to: 1) select teaching material to use; 2) locate information on specific content topic; 3) expand your teaching techniques and strategies; and 4) update you on current diabetes nutrition therapy approaches.
