Motor vehicle injuries are a large public health burden for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). In 2000, the overall motor vehicle injury death rate (age-adjusted) was 27.5 per 100,000 for American Indians/Alaska Natives versus 15.5 for US All Races.
