A peyote ceremony takes from 12-14 hours and is described. Indians regard mescal (peyote) as a medicine that is particularly effective in hemorrhage, consumptive diseases, fevers, headaches, breast pains. Addiction is not a factor. Comanche chief Quanah Parker ingested 30 mescal buttons once night. Indians believe that no mental effect is produced by less than ten mescal buttons.
