Description: 

The Sun Dance [aka Medicine Lodge ceremony] was once considered to be torture because of the sacrifice of the body. It is a religious occasion of great importance that celebrates the rebirth of life on earth and the return of the growth season. Favorable spirits are present at the ceremony and all food brought into the medicine lodge and allowed to remain for a brief period of time is considered "sanctified." Sun Dance ceremony is described through case report of the process before, during, and after the event.
