Alaskan Mummies

Description:

Mummification is practiced, in part, due to the frozen terrain. Various steps of preservation begin with removing pelvic organs, filling the cavity with dry grass, and placing the body in running water and conclude with suspending the mummified body in a cave. A child's death and the mortuary practices associated with the body's burial are described.
