Alcoholic cirrhosis among the Navaho.

Description:

Alcoholism is recognized by many Indians as a serious problem. Nevertheless few studies have attempted to assess the prevalence of drinking or the extent of alcoholism in contemporary Indian populations. Despite numerous social indications of drinking problems among the Navajo their mortality rates from cirrhosis are lower than those of the nation. Navajo mortality rates were also considerably lower than those of other Indian tribes, the latter being indicative of above-average drinking problems.
