The blood groups of the Seneca Indians.

Description:

Blood specimens from 324 Seneca Indians were examined for antigens of several blood group systems employing 29 antisera of different specificities. Characteristics expected of an American Indian population were found: high frequencies of O, M, R2, k, and Fy a; low frequencies of A2, B, Lua, and the Le (a+) phenotype. The incidence of Di(a+) individuals was only 3.1% in sharp contrast with the fairly uniform incidence between 8% and 18% among previously studied northeastern Indians. One Mi(a+) person was encountered, the first reported example in North American Indians.
