Cleft uvula in Chippewa Indians; prevalence and genetics.

Description:

This article discusses the results of a study of 657 Red Lake Chippewa Indian school children made in order to determine the prevalence of dental and oral disease and head and neck anomalies in a North American Indian group. The striking relationship between the relative prevalences of bifid uvula and ratio of Indian ancestry led to analyses of siblings of probands in an initial attempt to learn something of the genetic transmission involved.
