Epidemiology of alcoholic cirrhosis in two southwestern Indian tribes.

Description:

Liver cirrhosis death rates among the Hopi Indians are over four times higher, but among the Navaho the age-adjusted rate is only slightly less than in the general U.S. population. Contrasting drinking patterns rather than acculturation stress are proposed to account for the difference.
