In 3 chapters from the above book, the author writes that burial in caves was so common throughout the south that pioneers and hunters described caves as full of human bones. Several case reports are given of excavations in the early 1800s that unearthed the skeletons who were buried in stone coffins. Crania of children were examined and findings reported. Other types of burials are described, e.g., scaffolding, cremation, mounds, fortifications, earthworks, as are certain artifacts buried with the deceased. Sketches.
