Indian health initiatives: a nursing practice model.

Storytelling has provided a framework of shared beliefs, sacred rites, and tribal rituals that can impart a sense of continuity to tribal communities. By applying the practice methodology of Parse's theory of human becoming--illuminating meaning, synchronizing rhythms, and mobilizing transcendence--the author developed a nursing practice model called Indian Health Initiatives. This model transposes the ideas of "human becoming thought" over the Lakota centering symbol of the hocoka.
