Medical practices and human anatomical knowledge among the Noatak Eskimos.

Description:

This paper suggests that Noatak Eskimo anatomical knowledge is derived from an orientation of considerable antiquity that has had practical value. The Noatak people practice forms of acupuncture and other techniques that suggest that they represent a transition between the highly anatomically oriented Aleut and western Alaskan Eskimos, and the more shamanistically oriented northern and eastern coastal peoples.
