A Study of the Pathological Changes in Some Mound Builders' Bones from the Ohio Valley, with Especial Reference to Syphilis
Description:
During the summers of 1899-1900, members of the Museum of the Ohio State Archeological and Historical Society at Ohio State U. worked on the Baum Village Site. Excavated bones were in a good state of preservation. Only 1-2 bodies had been buried in rough stone coffins; others were simply buried in the recumbent position with no protection. Lesions on the excavated bones lead to the diagnosis of syphilis. Ten separate specimens were examined and reported.
