Mortuary Observances And The Adoption Rites Of The Algonkin Foxes Of Iowa

Description:

Four methods of disposal of remains were observed: 1) wrapping the clothed body with inner and outer covers and then placing it upon a berth in a tree or upon a scaffold; 2) on the battlefield, placing the body in a seated posture with the back against a support or having the body seated and facing westward upon the body of a slain enemy; 3) burying the body seated, facing westward, with an overhead shelter; and 4) burying the body in the ground. Author describes methods in detail.
