The Influenza And The Navajo.

Description:

Two thousand Navajos in the Fort Defiance area have died of influenza that started at the boarding school at Tuba City. Two miles from the school, a Hopi village named Moencopi was stricken, with 181 of 300 residents ill. When the Hopi started to recover, the ailment had spread to all the Navajo settlements. Hospitals were established at every convenient place. Some ailing Navajos were abandoned by their families - left to die. Many dead were left where they died, unburied.
