Datura belongs to a great number of plants that are remarkable for their narcotic properties. The earliest account of this plant dates back to the 11th century. It has been used throughout history by various peoples and cultures, including the Aztecs, the Pueblo Indians of the southwest and the eastern, e.g., Virginia, Indians.
