Declination Of The Pars Basilaris In Normal And In Artificially Deformed Skulls

Description:

This study is based on 81 skulls (67 male, 14 female) of the Chumash of San Miguel island, California and 83 skulls (57 males, 26 females) of the Chinook, who had practiced artificial skull deformation techniques on infants. Four conclusions have been reached after investigations: 1) the declinations is greater than in Europeans; 2) in the Chinook, the declination is distinctly influenced by deformation; 3) this deformation affects also the cranial basis and the foramen magnum; and 4) no unequivocal correlations obtain in the two series.
