Rattlesnake Venom Antidote Of Hopi Indians

Description:

Author was present at two Hopi snake dances and obtained a sample of an antidote used in case of snakebite. The antidote was later injected into guinea pigs and, while admitting that only a few guinea pigs were used, it is apparent from these experiments that the antidote, at least two months after its preparation, does not protect guinea pigs against small amounts of rattlesnake venom. However, no attempt was made to prevent the rapid absorption of the venom by the application of a tourniquet.
