Dental Conditions Among Mimbres People Of Southwestern United States Previous To Year 600 Ad

Description:

Approximately 130 skeletons were unearthed at two sites. A total of 800 teeth were examined. The most marked characteristic was extreme attrition caused by sand and gritty material in the food. Less than 8 % of the total teeth were carious. Conclusion: The Mimbres people, with probably no oral hygiene or care of the teeth whatever, were better equipped for the thorough mastication of food than are their brother Americans of today - a lasting tribute to the value of diet in dental health. Two tables showing measurements of teeth, one photo of a thirteen-century-old impaction.
