The Indians Of Pecos Pueblo A Study Of Their Skeletal Remains

Description:

Arthritis occurred in 13.12% of the group of 503 adult skeletons. Periostitis was found in 13 of the skeletons, possibly due to some non-specific infection, syphilis, or injuries. Fractures other than those of the skull were present in 19 of the skeletons; most common were those of the humerus and femur. Skull fractures were present in 23 of 581 skeletons. Osteoporosis was present in a considerable number of the crania of infants and children. Spondylitis deformans was noted in 13.12% of 503 skeletons. The health of the inhabitants declined during the closing periods of the settlement of the Pueblo. Continual undernourishment may have lowered the resistance of the people to epidemics and other diseases. Zimmerman Library at the University of New Mexico has the volume from which this was reprinted. Photos of x-rays of crania. Info narrated and listed in columns.
