Mortuary Customs Of The Ouray Utes

Hair of the mourners is cut, the body is kept until the following day before burial which is usually oriented in a north-south line. Personal effects are buried with the deceased. In olden times, a deceased's house was burned, his dog and horse were killed. Cave burials in rock fissures were formerly practiced by the Utes. Footnote.
