Description:
From 1807 when the first outbreak resembling bacillary dysentery was noted, up to July 1952 there were 206 cases of typhoid fever with 22 deaths reported. In the period 1937-51 there were 230 cases and 110 deaths due to bacillary dysentery and shigellosis. Sporadic cases of salmonellosis and shigellosis have been reported from many other villages in Alaska. Contaminated water supplies and improper sewage disposal have been the major causes of these outbreaks. Presented at the 3rd Alaskan Sci Conf, Mount McKinley Park, Alaska, Sept. 1952. Map. Footnotes.
