Scurvy In Nebraska

Description: 

Of the 788 soldiers stationed at Fort Atkinson in January 1820 during the first scurvy epidemic, nearly 500 fell ill with scurvy and 157 died. The 2nd epidemic occurred in 1845-46 among the Omahas. Since no population figures are available, it is impossible to determine how many died, but their numbers were reduced to approximately 100 families. Footnotes. Line graph. Bibliography.
