Osteological Consequences Of Scalping.

Description:

The osteological consequences following scalping are seen in the skull of a protohistoric Arikara Indian who survived the experience. These include exfoliation of the outer table and diploe, and subsequent replacement with new bone. The similarity of the resulting osteitis to that accompanying trephination, where the scalp was reflected as a preliminary to the operation, appears patent. Photo. Schematic. Sketch. Bibliography.
