Osteology Of The Four Bear Burials

Description:

The Four Bear site, an Arikara village, Dewey County, South Dakota, was excavated during the summers of 1958-59. Towards the close of the first excavation season, the burial ground was uncovered and fifteen human skeletons removed. The second year forty-two additional burials were removed, studied as a series, and presented in the Four Bear report. Since the publication of this report, skeletal material from the 1958 excavation has undergone osteologic analysis and the results presented in this paper in order that the complete physical anthropology of the Four Bear site will be available for future study.
