Five To Seventeen Year-End Results In 402 Patients With Pulmonary Resection For Tuberculosis

Description:

Results of pulmonary resection for TB are presented in 402 patients. Of the total group, 350 (87%) have remained well. Thirteen suffered relapse, 9 of whom are well now. Three are being treated and one is dead. Death after surgery occurred in 21, or 5.2% of all patients and was much higher in mandatory than in elective resection - 18.3 compared with 0.9%. Total postoperative deaths were 14, or 3.4%, with an incidence of 12.6% in mandatory and 0.6% in elective resections. Owing mainly to special problems of TB control among natives, an active program of elective resection has been continued. Presented at the Canadian Tuberculosis Ass'n meeting, 6/4/63. Tables.
