Puvalluttuq: An Epidemic Of Tuberculosis At Eskimo Point, Northwest Territories

Description:

An explosive epidemic of TB in a small isolated settlement is described. This outbreak, in a population of 329 Eskimos and 16 whites, produced 80 cases of active TB, involving 55% of all households. Forty-five were children under 10, and only 5 were persons over 30. The contributing causes of poor housing, over crowding, poor nutrition, coupled with the debilitating effect of recent epidemics of virus diseases, measles, mumps, and German measles are discussed. Presented at the annual meeting of the Canadian TB Ass'n in Montreal, 6/7/63. Illegible graphics. Map. Tables.
